I made the ‘best’ ever apple crumble recipe and it was incredible

Apple crumble is a great example of comfort food, it’s delicious sweet and has a crunchy topping.

They can be made in all sorts of ways with blackberries in them as well as adding oats to the top.

However, sometimes it is nice to keep things simple so I decided to try to find the easiest recipe online and I stumbled across the “best” apple crumble recipe on BBC Good Food.

It has more than 400 five-star ratings and uses just four simple ingredients to make a delicious pudding.

The recipe notes said: “You can’t beat a traditional apple filling topped with crispy, buttery crumble, classic comfort food at its best.”

For the filling:

575g Bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced to one centimetre thick

Two tbsp golden caster sugar

For the crumble:

175g plain flour

110g golden caster sugar

110g cold butter


I started by preheating the oven to 190C, or 170C if you have a fan-assisted oven and preparing my chosen dish.

I then put the peeled and cored apples into a bowl along with the two tbsp of golden caster sugar.

It is important that the chosen tin is at least five centimetres deep and is 20cm to 23cm in size. Make sure to flatten the apples down to prevent too much crumble from falling through.

Next, I put the 175g of plain flour and 100g of golden caster sugar into a bowl along with a pinch of salt.

The recipe then said to slice in the cold butter, rubbing it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Alternatively, this mixture can be pulsed in a food processor, making sure not to mix it too much as you do need some small lumps.

I then poured this mix over the apples to form a pile in the centre, using a fork to even them out.

The apple crumble was then baked in the oven for 35 minutes until the top was golden and the apple was piping hot.

This recipe couldn’t have been easier to follow and it was delicious and extremely versatile if you wanted to change something.

The ratio of apples to crumble topping was perfect and it had just the right amount of sweetness.
