The weekend is all about indulging in sweet treats and BBC Good Food’s easiest ever biscuits are the perfect bake.
These incredibly simple biscuits take just 10 minutes to prepare and less than 20 minutes to cook.
This recipe makes 24 biscuits so it’s ideal for when you’re hosting, although they will keep for three days in a biscuit tin.
If you’ve got young children or grandchildren over this weekend, why not get them involved in the baking? BBC Good Food called them “the simplest biscuits you and the kids will ever bake”. The team said:”We’ve stamped clean toys into these to decorate them – try your own favourite patterns.”
For those without little rascals at home, make the process even simpler and ditch the toy stamps. Serve with a piping hot cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients
- 200g unsalted butter, softened
- 200g golden caster sugar
- One large egg
- Half tsp vanilla extract
- 400g plain flour, plus extra for dusting

Method
- Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Add the butter to a bowl and beat it with electric beaters until it has become soft and creamy. Beat in the sugar, then egg and vanilla. Finally beat in the flour to form a dough. If the dough feels a little sticky at this point, you can add a bit more flour and knead it in.
- Pull pieces off the dough and roll them out to about the thickness of two £1 coins on a floured surface. (If you’ve got small children involved in your baking today, roll the mixture out on a baking mat.) Cut out shapes using a 9cm biscuit cutter. If you don’t have one of these, the rim of a small glass will do fine – just make sure you peel away the leftover dough around the edges. If you’re cooking with kiddies, press some clean toys gently into the biscuits. Make enough of a mark without going all the way through. Keep going with the rest of the dough.
- Transfer the mat or the individual biscuits to the baking sheet and bake for eight to 10 mins or until the edges are just brown. Set aside to cool for five minutes, then serve.
