Dr Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.

Although Dr Mosley often recommends slimmers to follow his The Fast 800 diet, he told Express.co.uk that exercise goes hand in hand with healthy food when it comes to weight loss.

He said: “Exercise is key for weight loss for various reasons.

“It is amongst the best things you can do for a long and healthy life.

“While exercise alone will not help you lose the stubborn fat from round your middle, it can be crucial for helping reduce the risk of re-gaining fat as well as lowering blood sugar levels and improving insulin sensitivity.”

Dr Mosley went on to explain which exercises he does at home to help him lose weight.

“I do High Intensive Interval Training (HIIT) at home and I also use my exercise bike.

“Not only is it a highly effective way to get fit, it’s also unbelievably quick, which means there’s no excuse not to do it.”

The nutrition expert recommended doing just 10 minutes on a static bike three times a week.

Quick strengthening exercises which don’t require special equipment are also advised.

Dr Mosley continued: “In case you’ve never tried HIIT, it involves a few very short bursts of strenuous exercise carried out in succession.

“Exercising in this way can help improve your aerobic fitness in a relatively short time.”

If you don’t have an exercise bike at home, the doctor recommended other activities that can be done for less money, or even for free.

He said: “If you don’t have an exercise bike you can try pedalling on your road bike furiously up a hill, running up the stairs, or doing short sprints when out on a run.

“Just pick up your walking pace until you are breathing hard.

“The main thing is that these bursts should be brief – 30 seconds maximum when it comes to the stairs, or running – but hard enough to get your heart rate up.”

When it comes to a healthy diet, Dr Mosley also told Express.co.uk what he eats in a day.

For breakfast, the nutrition expert usually opts for mushroom omelette with Kimchi-style sauerkraut which, he said, is “great for the gut”.

As for lunch, Dr Mosley said: “I might have a turmeric chicken salad – turmeric has lots of anti-inflammatory properties – or a chickpea tagine.”

Dinner is salmon and broccoli or a Kimchi rice tofu bowl.

The nutrition expert tries to avoid snacks but, he said, “if I do occasionally indulge, it might be on something reasonably healthy like a handful of nuts”.

Dr Mosley added: “My wife Clare makes these wonderful sugar free chocolate brownies that contain beetroot and dates.

“They are pretty hard to resist but thankfully, they’re guilt-free.”
