It’s a common misconception that those who want to lose weight need to get themselves an expensive membership. Exercising can be totally free, and there are plenty of crafty opportunities to get it done at home.

Rather than reaching for crisps or chocolate to snack on during an evening of TV viewing, use this time to try some simple bodyweight exercises.

Those who want to lose weight can do so from their living room floor, all while enjoying their favourite shows.

Sit-ups, press-ups, step-ups, squats, star jumps, planks and plank twists can all be done on the floor and with zero equipment.

What’s more, the TV is a perfect distraction technique, and will make the exercises feel much quicker and easier.

For those who want to relax during their TV time, they can try these exercises for short bursts during adverts.

From ballet to boxing, there’s something for every interest, fitness level and age.

Oprah Daily recommended BeFit, a YouTube fitness channel with more than three million subscribers.

It shares several 80s exercise videos to “satisfy that nostalgic workout itch”.

Chloe Ting, who has a staggering 22.6 million YouTube subscribers, posts workouts that target all areas of the body, with many taking less than 15 minutes.

Walking lovers can rejoice, as Leslie Sansone’s YouTube channel provides her almost four million subscribers with a simple indoor walking regime – perfect for when it’s too cold outside.

Joe Wicks, The Body Coach TV, provided the nation with PE with Joe, a free workout aimed at children and families when schools were closed in the UK during the pandemic.

He has just under three million subscribers on his YouTube channel, and provides a huge variety of workouts with varying intensity, with exercises for children, seniors, and adults of a beginner, intermediate and advanced level.

The PE with Joe videos can also be accessed on his channel, and they certainly aren’t just suitable for kids.

Finally, one underrated piece of equipment in many homes that can be utilised for a workout is the stairs; Holly Dolke’s 10 minute stairs workout video is something everyone can use as a weight loss or fitness tool.
