Michael McIntyre will appear on the television screens tonight as he returns for another episode of The Wheel on BBC One. Known to have struggled with his weight over the years, the comedian has openly spoken about what made him want to lead a healthier lifestyle.

The 45-year-old has caught the attention of fans over the years, with the comedian reportedly having lost a staggering 28lbs in weight. 

Michael is said to have slimmed down without following any strict diet routine and instead opted for healthier eating and more exercise. 

To lose weight, slimmers need to be eating in a calorie deficit, meaning the body is burning more fuel than being consumed.

While exercise does not have a direct impact on weight loss, it can help to create a larger calorie deficit.

It is also great in improving mood, boosting the metabolism as well as improving stamina.

Appearing on an episode of the Jonathan Ross show last year, the comedian revealed why he wanted to lose some weight.

He said: “I had an incident last year and I thought I should try and lose weight. In an airport, E gates.

“I went in there in France and it wouldn’t let me out. It said on the screen, this was a low point, it said ‘only one person’.

“So I got to the stage that I was the size of two Frenchmen. I had to go round the other way. It was convinced I was two people.

“I was inspired then to lose weight.”

He added that the multiple lockdowns last year didn’t help with his weight, causing him to put on a lot of weight. 

Michael also is said to have cut down on the amount of alcohol he was drinking.

Alcohol, which contains a high amount of carbohydrates, can also be extremely high in calories.

Healthline also describes alcohol as “empty calories” meaning it provides the body with very little nutrients.

It said: “Foods high in simple sugars, such as those found in candy, soda, and even beer, are also high in calories.

“Extra calories end up stored as fat in the body.

“Consuming foods and drinks high in sugar can quickly lead to weight gain. We can’t close where all that extra weight ends up. But the body tends to accumulate fat in the abdominal area.”

To help slim down, the comedian opted to have meals delivered to his house, to help him portion control and calorie count.

This included meals everyday for each meal including breakfast, lunch and dinner.

These cost Michael upwards of £60 a day but did help him to reach his goals.

Although the comedian is not a fan of diets, he did appear on Jessica Ware’s Table Manners podcast back in 2017 to share his experience at a Mayr clinic in Australia.

He explained how he lost a huge stone in weight in just six days after consuming small amounts of food including soup and crackers.

He said: “I always have this plan to lose weight and you know, one year I did. I actually did it.”

However crash dieting is never advised and the week left him feeling “hollow”.

The best way to lose weight safely is to make long-term changes and the NHS recommends losing between one to two pounds of fat each week.
