‘Prevent cravings’ with weight loss guru’s healthy snacks to stop ‘further energy drops’

Healthy snacks are a key element of a healthy diet. When you need to refuel, it is a good idea to have a selection of healthy snacks ready to do.

A Harley St. nutritionist spoke to Express.co.uk about healthy snacks to add to your plan to aid with weight loss.

Which are the healthy snacks to help with weight loss?

Clarissa Lenherr told Express.co.uk: “If you have a sweet tooth, always pair something sweet (even natural sources of sugar) with protein and or/fat.

“This will help to balance your blood sugar levels to prevent further energy drops and cravings for snacks.”

Healthy sweet snacks

  • Dates with unsweetened peanut/almond butter
  • Pear with goat’s cheese
  • Yogurt with berries and dark chocolate shavings
  • 70 percent plus dark chocolate (contains less sugar) with a few raw nuts

Clarissa recommends snacking on protein if you aren’t craving sweets.

She said: “If you want savoury snacks, reach for protein.”

Healthy savoury snacks

  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Edamame bean pots
  • Boiled eggs with an oatcake
  • Crudités and hummus

Clarissa aims to “help clients to optimise health and wellbeing through nutrition”.

The specialist is a certified member of The British Association of Nutritionists (BANT), The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and a Registered Nutritionist (mBANT).

She also detailed some “dietary principles” she claims will make eating more healthily sustainable and enjoyable.

Clarissa said: “My advice is to stick to a few dietary principles that are sustainable and enjoyable.

“Aim for well-balanced meals at every opportunity. Your plate should be quarter protein, quarter complex carbohydrates, half vegetables and add on one or two tablespoons of fat. That sets you up for the right macro intake without restriction.

“Make sure you are getting enough protein, as this macro group helps keep us full and satiated, so we are less likely to snack

“Keep sugar low. Opt for something sweet only once a day, in one portion. And ideally, make these choices whole food options such as fruit.

“Cook from scratch when possible and avoid ultra-processed foods filling up your diet.”

Another fitness expert, YouTube guru Carly Rowena, advocated a diet plan which allows for wine. 

Carly said: “It’s asking people what we can add-in, which works really well.”

She explained diets often focus on taking food away, instead of adding foods in.

“People never think to add stuff in but that means people can still have their wine and still have the alcohol, but they’re adding in some new things that they weren’t doing before which can generally make a big change.”
