Trying to get rid of belly fat can be a real challenge but by making simple changes to diet and fitness routines, people will see results quickly. Ahead of national fitness day 2022 (21 September), experts have revealed their go-to exercises that will help to burn away the bulge and lose weight.
Celebrity trainer and nutrition expert Jillian Michaels, revealed combining cardio, strength and core exercises is best for reducing fat.
Core exercises have been hailed the “most effective” movement for burning stomach fat.
She said: “I’m a big fan of exercises that are core-focused.
“But [you can also] work multiple muscle groups simultaneously with a HIIT (high intensity interval training) component for added calorie burn.”
Fitness experts’ favourite belly fat-busting workouts include:
Michaels explained: “This exercise works your core, as well as your chest, shoulders, lats, triceps and quads.
“Since burpees involve explosive plyometric movement, they’ll get your heart pumping, too.”

These require no equipment and can be performed just about anywhere.
They are an “effective” workout all on their own or as a quick blast at the end of a training session.
Mountain climbers provide a full-body workout and provide a calorie burn, which leads to fat loss.
The celeb PT is a fan of this moving plank exercise because it “works the core, in addition to lots of other body muscles”.
Side-to-side medicine ball slams
Chris DiVecchio, trainer and founder of Premier Body and Mind said: “Medicine ball slams are a dynamic, explosive, and highly metabolic exercise that does not simply target one muscle group.”
The main muscles used include obliques, hamstrings, quads, biceps, and shoulders. But Chris revealed it’s actually more of a full-body workout.
“As time goes on and fatigue sets in, nearly every other muscle in the body, in one way or another, may become involved as a secondary mover,” he explained.
Fitness nutritionists have branded this exercise the “best” for whittling away belly and side fat.
As it targets the obliques, it can help burn fat fast and is typically performed with a medicine ball or plate.
DiVecchio told Prevention: “The Russian twist is a core exercise that improves oblique strength and definition.
“It involves rotating your torso from side to side while holding a sit-up position with your feet off the ground.”
