Root beer bbq sauce

I was out of bbq sauce, and I have a kid who loves bbq with his chicken… so I need some bbq sauce, lol, I had looked online at different homemade bbq sauce, and came up this. All of my kids love root beer , so i thought I’d give it try , and wow, you can still taste the root beer in this….i was afraid it lose the root beer flavor, but it didn’t. I will be making lollipop chicken with this sauce, so check out that recipe too.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups root beer
  2. 1 cup ketchup
  3. 1/3 cup brown sugar
  4. 2 tablespoons vinegar
  5. 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or 1 TBS)
  6. 1 teaspoons Onion powder
  7. 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  8. 1 teaspoons pepper

Steps

  1. Put all ingredients in a sauce pan, give it a good mix with a silicone whisk

  2. Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it comes to a small boil, let boil for 2 minutes and reduce heat to low,

  3. Set timer ⏲ for 35 mins uncovered and let simmer, and stirring it occasionally. (the sauce should have reduced some)

  4. Pour in a container and let cool….

  5. Use / or Restore in refrigerator in an airtight container…

  6. Notes- any kind of vinegar will work I used balsamic, can use red wine, apple cider, distilled white vinegar… I used what I had… for a more thick bbq sauce, let it boil longer, and also let it simmer longer if needed, the more it reduced the thicker it will get. I didn’t go very thick with this batch.
