There are so many ways to make nachos at home, but for people with an air fryer, it’s by far the quickest appliance to cook them in. While this recipe by the chefs at Tefal requires just a handful of ingredients, the crunchy tortilla triangles can be topped with almost anything.

Cooking tasty snacks from scratch doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to take hours either.

In fact, these cheese-topped air fryer nachos can be made in just six minutes and enjoyed straight away.

And unlike most nachos recipes, the crunchy tortilla chips are made from whole wraps rather than bags of crisps.

Not only is it a much cheaper way to do it but also means the tortilla triangles can be seasoned to suit everyone’s individual taste.

For a simple base of hot, crunchy nachos, the following ingredients are required:

One packet of tortilla wraps (any kind)

50g grated cheddar cheese

Seasoning of choice – (salt, pepper, smoked paprika, chilli flakes, rosemary)

Don’t miss… This recipe contains six portions though more wraps and cheese can be used to serve larger groups.

However, the nachos may need to be cooked in shifts as it is important to fry them in single layers.

To make the nachos, start by cutting the cold wraps into even triangles.

It may help the fold the wraps in half or quarters for a more uniform shape.

Once cut, mix the chosen seasonings into a bowl to reach the desired taste. This can be kept simple with salt and pepper, or swapped in with Mexican-style flavours.

For a taco-inspired seasoning mix, combine half a teaspoon of chilli powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes in a bowl.

Add salt and pepper to taste and adjust where necessary by adding more paprika and onion powder for a sweeter taste.

Coat the tortilla triangles in the mixture and empty them into a single layer to cover the basket of the air fryer.

Cook for four minutes at 180C, flipping halfway through cooking for an even, golden sheen on each tortilla.

Once cooked, add the grated cheese on top of the nachos. For extra flavour, red Leicester is a great addition to the cheddar – and will add a pop of colour too.

Return the basket to the fryer for a further two minutes at 180C until all of the cheese has melted to form a gooey coating.

Serve with dips such as guacamole, salsa and soured cream to complete the dish, or sprinkle over chopped tomatoes, red onion and microgreens for a fresher taste.
