Air fryer chicken thigh recipe with key ingredient to make them ‘so crunchy’

Chicken thighs are incredibly versatile and affordable, making them the ideal ingredient for a cheap homemade meal.

While skinless and boneless varieties cost a little more, normal thighs are perfect for coating in seasoning and cooking until crispy.

Of course, an oven is the most conventional way to brown off the tender, white meat, but with this air fryer recipe, they’ll be ready to serve in just 20 minutes.

Sharing her easy method in a video on TikTok, Katrice Taylor (@katrice_taylor) claimed to make the “most delicious” chicken thighs.

And it couldn’t be more simple to make, using chicken, seasonings, and one “secret ingredient”.

Ingredients

  • 700g chicken thighs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Olive oil
  • Baking powder

Method

Start by placing the raw chicken thighs in a large mixing bowl and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Then, add equal amounts (around half a teaspoon each) of garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika, before drizzling the thighs with a little olive oil.

Stir well to coat the meat before adding the “secret ingredient to the crunch”, baking powder. Mix once more to ensure the raising agent is evenly distributed before cooking.

To fry the raw chicken, start with a clean, empty air fryer basket and transfer each thigh from the bowl one by one.

The meat should be laid in one single layer to ensure they cook evenly. Katrice recommended cooking the chicken at 400F (200C), for 20 minutes.

At the 10-minute mark, she suggested flipping each thigh to ensure they “come out perfect every single time”.

The TikTok cook said: “They are so crunchy and crispy and delicious. The kids love these, and so does my husband!”
