Cheapest UK supermarkets for potatoes ranked as experts warn of spud shortage

UK consumer demands mean that around 4.8 million tonnes of potatoes are needed with 2023’s harvest being dubbed the “toughest on record”.

Shoppers could also miss out on broccoli, parsnip and cauliflower with stock levels of the popular vegetables reportedly lower than normal.

Fred Searle, editor of Fresh Produce Journal, said: “The British potato harvest has been hit hard by heavy autumn rain and flooding, causing delayed lifting and large crop losses.”

Understandably, this comes as devastating news for Britons who were hoping to enjoy a pile of roast potatoes on Christmas Day.

With Christmas just around the corner, and many Britons planning their Christmas dinners well in advance, Adventrum has researched and found the cheapest UK supermarket to buy your potatoes from this year.

However, Aldi’s not the only UK supermarket offering their shoppers affordable potatoes this Christmas.

Sainsbury’s shoppers can buy a 2kg bag of Maris Piper potatoes for £1.35.
